Woman Arrested for Posing as Immigration Lawyer
Micallela Aguilera Coleman was taken into custody on April 7, 2015 in Huntington Beach, California, for fraudulently acting as a licensed immigration lawyer. According to reports, Coleman took thousands from a woman seeking legal help and immigration services for family members that are undocumented immigrants. Coleman, who cannot be located on any official list of licensed attorneys in the United States, accepted cash installments throughout the month of February from A.J. Aguirre. After some suspicion, Aguirre recorded a conversation with Coleman in which Coleman allegedly told her how to lie to immigration officials at an upcoming immigration hearing.
Two days later, Coleman failed to appear at a meeting and Aguirre found that she had yet to file paperwork with any immigration agency for Aguirre’s immigrant family members. Unfortunately, Aguirre did not take precaution when hiring Coleman and she is now out $3,000.
Often, family members of illegal and/or detained immigrants seeking an immigration lawyer or immigration bail bond, do not take the steps necessary to ensure that they are receiving a professional service. It is important for anyone seeking an immigration lawyer or immigration bail bond, to research the lawyer or bail bond company to make sure that they are working with a licensed entity.
Upon further investigation, officials have found that Coleman has been convicted of possessing bad checks, fraud, and unauthorized practice of law in the state of California. She is wanted for fraud in Michigan, as well. Â
