What is a Detention Center?

If you or a loved one have found yourself in a position where a detention center is now a word you need to know, then we understand this is a stressful time for you. There are three detention centers in South Florida. These detention centers act as the holding grounds for persons who have been detained for non-citizenship and alleged illegal residency in the United States. US Immigration Bonds has been posting bonds for detainees in the South Florida area for years and helping them get released from these detention centers.

These holding areas are used to keep detainees secure while the case for immigration is built. Usually, the detainee will stay in the detention center until the hearing and processed accordingly. With the help of an immigration bond, the detainee may be released form the detention center and allowed to walk free in the US until the scheduled hearing. This of course does not mean that the troubles are over, but it does give the detainee more time to prepare a defense and possibly hire legal representation.

Currently, the US has the largest immigration detention in the world. 2015 Federal mandates say that ICE must maintain at least 34,000 beds available for immigrants who will find themselves in the detention system. That unprecedented amount, known as the bed quota, has caused some stir in Washington recently. The detention centers are run by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) who act as the guards and the arresting officers as part of a branch of Home Land Security. Immigration is a part of the United States hot button issues that are definitely here to stay. Detention centers in South Florida, too, will be here to stay for the foreseeable future.
