President Works Alone on Immigration Reform

The world of immigration in the US is a mess right now. House Republicans are refusing to do their job, leaving President Obama on his own in terms of immigration reform. Obama has recently taken a trip to Texas in hopes of raising money for the humanitarian crisis that is the US Mexico border, along with trying to get Governor Rick Perry to help Obama rally Republicans support for the $3.7 billion that he is asking congress for.

Obama is requesting the emergency funds to help properly take care of the thousands of children in detention centers, along with putting more people on the border to attempt to secure it, and to fund immigration hearings, among other things. But, in true form House Republicans are refusing to grant him the money because they are skeptical of his intentions. Speaker of the House John Boehner said, “If we don’t secure the border, nothing’s going to change. If you look at the president’s request, it’s all more not continuing to deal with the problem.” Meanwhile Obama is requesting the emergency funds in order to help secure the border.

President Obama, along with countless numbers of people, are concerned that the Republicans are more about playing the politics game, and less about actually doing what is right for this country and the children that have come here. It is also not too farfetched to believe that the Republicans are trying to destroy Obama and the democrat’s image in a time when elections are close to being on the agenda.
