President Obama Seeks Funds for Immigrants Crossing US Mexican Border

The Obama Administration has declared what is going on with the thousands of immigrants crossing US Mexican border as a humanitarian crisis. He is planning on going to Texas to host fundraisers in hopes of getting money to help deal with the crisis, although he is going nowhere near the border. Many feel that with the seriousness of the issue at hand, flying to Texas but not going to the border isnโ€™t the best way to handle things. The President is asking Congress for $3.7 billion in emergency funds to better deal with the situation at hand.

The Obama administration is firm in believing that the thousands of children that are making the dangerous trek from Central America are coming to the US seeking asylum from their war torn, gang ridden, impoverished countries, whereas House Republicans are adamant that these children are coming to the US simply because they believe President Obama is granting amnesty to illegal immigrants. Meanwhile, regardless of what is going on in America, smugglers are taking advantage of the vulnerability of the people trying to make it to the US, and creating an incredibly dangerous stretch of land between Central America and the US. The people attempting to make the journey face threats, assault, rape, among other countless hardships.

President Obama is hoping that Congress gives him the money he is asking for, so that he can better handle the influx of illegal immigrants that are flowing, nonstop, through the border. Republicans in the Senate are trying to get Obama to revisit a 2008 law that President Bush put into place that requires deportation hearings before sending back children that are from countries that do not border the US. They believe that this problem cannot be fixed without stripping those children of the rights that are guaranteed to everyone else. Democrats want to keep the law in place to ensure that children that truly deserve need in the US can get it.
