How Immigration Policy is Shaping the Mid Term Elections
Is President Trump using immigration to sow seeds of division ahead of mid term elections? It’s not too far from the apparent truth.
Trump has used immigration as a major proponent of his political campaign since the beginning. Whether it be building a wall or refusing people from Muslim countries to enter the U.S. Perhaps the most shocking change to immigration policy in recent years.
What is the Republican Agenda?
This time it’s more of the same, it’s business as usual: “President Trump is stepping up attacks on some of his favorite targets — immigrants, Mexico and Democrats — amid reports that a “caravan” of Honduran migrants is headed to the U.S. border.” [1]
It’s no secret that the mid term elections will be affected by immigration, the only question is how immigration policy will affect midterm elections 2018
So far, immigration has played a large role in getting bodies into voting booths. The scare has been a driving force behind political voting. The idea that illegal immigrations policy is an all-out war for the rights to protect the country from illegals. And the mid term elections are the battle ground.
“The Democrats don’t care what their extremist immigration agenda will do to your communities,” Trump told the crowd at the International Air Response Hangar [2].
This rhetoric is what has lead to an increase in immigration bonds in Texas and immigration bonds in California.
So What Are Democrats Doing?
But democrats might finally be answer back to this rhetoric, and they aren’t doing it at rallies, or on slacktivist social media groups. No, democrats are making their way to voting booths in a calm and determined manner.
But why don’t democrats vote? There have been lots of speculation. Some say because they cannot see the difference between candidates [3]. Some say its because young democrats are less likely to vote, and a pill reported by Vox claims only 28% of young voters will vote in mid term elections [4].
Non-Partisanship
Regardless of political leaning, we should be happy that a larger portion of the country is voting. Democracy is dependent the volume of the voices and nothing speaks louder than a vote.
