How Immigration Policy Will Affect Midterm Elections 2018

Midterm elections are upon us and that means that immigration reform and immigration policies are once again, front and center in the minds of the American voting public – put there, sometimes involuntarily, by the politicians that want to win votes from constituents who desperately want immigration reforms. Midterm immigration policy is a hot button topic on both sides of the isle.

US immigration bond companies are still in as much business as they have been since Trumps inauguration, though reform has been drastic and sudden over the past two years.

How Immigration Policy Will Affect Midterm Elections for Democrats

Don’t get it wrong, Democrats want immigration reform too, but they are asking for more lenient immigration policies. The party lost big time in April 2018 when DACA was repealed [1].

Since the election of President Trump, democrats have promised the largest turn out of blue voters in recent years. In the early part of 2017, there was a so-called “blue wave” on the rise. Large amounts of democrats, outraged over Trump’s win, promised to show up at voting booths.

Apparently, that furvert has calmed.

“Democrats are sure to make gains in this year’s midterm elections, but the monstrous wave that appeared to be building in late 2017 now appears to be more modest,” Barry Burden, a political scientist at the University of Wisconsin Madison told Vox [2]. And he’s not alone – most political experts are saying that the Democrats have a chance to take some major eats of power, but it’s not as much of a wave as once expected.

Midterm immigration policy hangs on how many Democrats win seats because most American’s believe that democrats would do a better job dealing with immigration reform that Republicans [3].

How Immigration Policy Will Affect Midterm Elections for Republicans

In a recent Reuters poll, 26% of Republicans said that immigration policy will affect midterm elections and would affect their voting decisions, compared to only 7% of Democrats agreeing with them [4].

Trump and the Neo Conservatives are betting on the immigration message, doubling down hard on current issues including the recent Mollie Tibbets case.

The President has taken to Twitter to warn Republicans that letting democrats win would “let MS-13 run wild in our communities”.

Polling suggests that immigration reform is one of the most energizing topics to Republican voters [5] which means that we should all expect to see more of it in the upcoming election news cycle coverage.
