Miami Immigration Bonds – Cases Increasing

It’s well known that Miami has its fair share of immigrants. The city has been a focal point of South American immigrants for decades, and Miami has been a sanctuary city for almost all that time. Until recently that it is. Now, there are a record number of deportation cases and Miami immigration bonds are being issued more than ever. The aftermath of Miami dropping its sanctuary city status has been rocky at best.

The truth is, immigration court has always been plagued by issues of inefficiency. There were not enough immigration judges, lawyers, or immigration bail bondsmen in the country to deal with all the immigration issues in the US before the current changes even took effect.

Most immigrants spend over a year in deportation centers waiting to see immigration judges. More Miami immigration bonds are being used to ensure that these immigrants can leave the centers and continue to support their families, or build their cases while they wait for their case to be heard.

Cases for immigrants who are not in custody can take anywhere between 2 and 5 years to resolve. During that time, immigrants cannot legally work in the US and most are stuck in limbo.

The more that Miami authorities comply with federal immigration authorities regarding the detaining of illegal immigrants, the stickier the situation gets.

In early March, a judge rebuked the decision that Miami-Dade County made to comply. The decision came after Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents (ICE) detained a Haitian man in order to investigate his immigration status.

Although the ruling only applied to that detainee, it may lead to a legal precedent for the rest of the country. Until then, there will be more cases of Miami immigration bonds in the future, and no sign of Miami returning to its sanctuary status.
