Why is There More Immigration Now Than Ever Before?

According to the immigration bondsmen in Fort Lauderdale, immigration throughout the 20th century fluctuated due to varying conditions within the economy. In 1986, the Immigration Reform and Control Act immensely increased the number of immigrants allowed into the United States.

In the 1990’s, the United States had its biggest growth in U.S. population. This was, in part, due to Congress increasing the number of immigrants that were allowed into the country, allowing more than four times the traditional amount. During this time, federal decision making regarding enforcement of laws against illegal immigrants was at a standstill.

Today, immigration is the largest contributor to the population growth here in the United States. Immigration now contributes about 2.25 million people annually to the United States population.

Factors contributing to that 2.25 million include:

  • 7 million immigrants (legal and illegal)
  • 750,000 births from Immigrant women

Additionally, a total of 31.1 million foreign born babies, which is an increase of fifty percent since 1990. Out of that 31.1 million, over 11 million are here illegally. New data collected in 2015 recorded that 3.1 million new immigrants settled in the United states in 2014 and 2015; a number that continues to grow by 1.5 million immigrants annually.  If changes are not made, current immigration levels could double the United States population this century.
