Immigrants Excited for Obama’s Immigration Efforts

In mid-December, crowds of illegal immigrants gathered at the Los Angeles convention center for information regarding illegal status. The thousands of illegal immigrants were offered assessments of eligibility for protection from deportation.

Obama’s executive order on immigration was an effort to protect 5 million illegal aliens from deportation. Illegal immigrants nationwide are eager to see if they are eligible for Obama’s immigration efforts.

Obama’s executive order will offer three-year deportation deferrals and work permits to roughly 5 million illegal immigrants. The Obama administration says that their immigration efforts are to shift the focus from low risk immigrants with strong family ties, to aliens with criminal records. President Obama says that our resources are being wasted on illegal immigrants that are of no risk to our country; our focus and money should be spent catching those who pose a threat to our nation.

The federal agency CIS (Citizenship and Immigration Services), will begin to accept applications in February for youth programs and in May for parents of citizens, though these efforts may come to a halt with Republicans taking control of the both houses of Congress in 2015. Not to mention the 20+ state lawsuit charging the President of ‘exceeding his constitutional authority’.

We will see what 2015 has in store for illegal immigrants. As of right now, the future looks bright, but we all know things can change in the blink of an eye.
