Republican National Convention on Immigration Reform
Every election cycle, the term “immigration reform” seems to be on the tip of everyone’s tongue, and at no other point or any other time is it mentioned so often. Candidates and their parties always use the term immigration reform, but both the republican and democratic parties have different ideas for what “reform” entails. With the election just a few months away, we can hear firsthand the thoughts of the Republican National Convention on immigration.
The convention took place on July 18 and 19, and was largely focused on immigration. This is likely due to the fact that Donald Trump’s campaign slogan has consistently been the calling for a wall to separate the Unites States border and Mexican border.
See US Immigration Bonds’ blog regarding “Donald Trump’s wall, fact or fiction?” The two parties were polarized as usual on the issue. According to an article about the RNC 2016 on Politifact, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, claimed that Clinton is for “open border”. The political fact checking website claimed that was false and that Clinton is for safer borders, but easier access to legitimacy for current illegals. Some claim that is merely semantics and that the polarizing stances of both parties on immigration reform remains the same.
Former Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz arrived at the Republican National Convention and began adding his comments into the immigration reform discussion. “I don’t want to celebrate your holidays, I sure as hell don’t want to cheer for your soccer team” Holtz said. The football legend announced his support for Donald Trump and said that America needs a leader more than anything.
