Immigration Lawyer Commits Immigration Fraud

Bonnie Youn, a well-respected immigration lawyer in Atlanta, Georgia, was sentenced to two years of probation after she was convicted of immigration fraud. Immigration lawyers and immigration bail bondsmen are considered to be the utmost authority on all matters pertaining to immigration law, which means Youn was fully aware of the potential damage her actions would cause her.

Youn was once heralded by the Obama White House Administration as a “Champion of Change” and commended for her work on immigration reform. No one from the White House has been available for comment since she was convicted for immigration fraud.

According to the court documents obtained from the U.S. Attorney General’s Office, the immigration lawyer had told an unnamed Korean client to submit immigration forms that contained false information, stating that the immigrant had worked for the Asian American Educational Foundation of Georgia. Federal agents questioned the applicant, who was reading from notes while answering questions, until the client eventually confessed to having been coached by Youn.

Youn plead guilty and received two years of probation and a fine just over $5,000; her law firm, Youn Law, was closed and she lost her ability to practice law for the next two years while on probation. ICE continues to investigate people who claim immigration status and we can all learn from the mistakes made by Bonnie Youn.
