Girl Helps Father’s Release From ICE Detention

“Everything happens for a reason,” would be a very honest statement from 10-year-old Jersey Vargas who allowed for her father’s release from ICE Detention when she traveled to the Vatican last week to speak with Pope Francis. Jersey Vargas’ father, Mario Vargas, was detained in a Louisiana ICE detention facility after being arrested and convicted for a DUI last year in Tennessee.

Jersey was 1-of-16 American children of immigrant parents that traveled to address the Pope in an effort to initiate a line of communication between he and President Obama on the subject of the U.S. immigration system. Not only did President Obama meet with the Pope last Thursday, but a cousin of Mr. Vargas saw Jersey on television and contacted the family to help post the bond!
