Obama in Miami for Immigration

Making an appearance in the predominately Hispanic South Florida, President Obama urged Republicans to act on the Homeland Security Funding while not taking away his proposed executive action on immigration.

Mr. Obama spoke at Florida International University on Wednesday where he addressed his plans to veto any measure made to remove his executive action. Referring to Senator McConnell of Kentucky and House Speaker Boehner of Ohio, Obama says, “[If they] want to have a vote on whether what I’m doing is legal or not, they can have that vote… I will veto that vote.”

The proposed executive action on immigration was given in late November. The executive action proposed granting work visas and temporary legal status to five million illegal immigrants.

Telemundo, the Spanish based network, broadcasted the meeting and highlighted the anger Obama faces from Hispanics nationwide for not acting sooner when Democrats held majorities in both houses. When MSNBC moderator Jose Diaz-Balart told the President that Hispanics believe both political parties use immigration reform as an issue for political gain, Obama became defensive.

Protecting his proposal, Obama said, “The blockage has been very specific on one side. Let’s not be confused about why we don’t have comprehensive immigration reform right now. It’s very simple: The Republican speaker of the House, John Boehner, refused to call a bill.”
