Miami is No Longer a Sanctuary City

Civil rights activities and law enforcement agencies are struggling to answer this question: Is Miami a sanctuary city? This is is a difficult question to answer, especially in the past few weeks. Though no changes in policy have been made, the position taken by Miami-Dade Country Mayor, Carlos Gimenez, has began to worry some immigrants living in Miami.

Mayor Gimenez was put under pressure from President Trump to renounce Miami’s sanctuary city designation. President Trump threatened to revoke up to $355 million annually. This has prompted residents to prepare for the worst. US Immigration Bonds offers same day release bonds and immigration bonds in Miami – we can help.

Protests regarding immigration in Miami have already begun. Protestor signs read: “We Are All Immigrants” and “Refugees Built Miami”. Historically, Miami is a city of immigrants. Miami’s proximity Cuba, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic makes this city the best location for incoming immigrants from those nations.

A sanctuary city is categorized as upholding policies that protect undocumented immigrants. These sanctuary cities will not turn over undocumented immigrants to ICE, even if that means contradicting Federal law.

Because more undocumented immigrants will be detained in the future, the need for immigration bonds in Miami is going to increase.

President Trump speaks on these cities, stating: “Sanctuary jurisdictions across the United States willfully violate Federal law in an attempt to shield aliens from removal from the United States… These jurisdictions have caused immeasurable harm to the American people and to the very fabric of our republic.
