Illegal Immigrants in College Start In a few Weeks

A few months ago, the southern United States and everyone at US Immigration Bonds was stunned by the commencement speech of Larissa Martinez, where she revealed during her high school valedictorian speech, that she is one of 65,000 illegal immigrants graduating from high school that day. She will be one of only half of those illegal immigrants entering college this semester, and on top of that, she will be starting at Yale.

If all of that made your head spin a little, you are not alone. Martinez has received a blitz of media attention, support, and criticism. Martinez is not alone. Mayte Lara Ibarra also announced her status on graduation day with a post on her Twitter account. Ibarra too, will be one of the few illegal immigrants enrolled in college this coming fall semester.

How can you enroll in college as an illegal immigrant? It seems that the system is not set up to ask certain questions, and the freedom to withhold some information allows these students to circumvent some of the restrictions inherent in applying for anything. Illegal immigrants in college tend not to finish. It may be that their families need them to work to earn for the household, or that they are discovered and placed in detention centers or evade police.

The DREAM Act and DACA are umbrellas that are sheltering some immigrants who need are attempting to find legalization. This is a difficult path to follow and US Immigration Bonds would of course recommend finding a legal way to enter the U.S., but regardless, there are immigrants who are making the American Dream come true and are truly bettering themselves and their families by migrating to the U.S.
