Is the ‘American Dream’ an Option for Immigrants?

Our great country was built on a foundation created by immigrants. We came in waves from all over the world, seeking a better life, and the American Dream was born.

For years, we have still seen an influx of immigrants who believe that this initial foundation is still possible, but is it? Does the American Dream apply to immigrants in the 21st century?

Millions of immigrants nationwide, live in fear of being deported back to a country filled with violence, drugs, and the sexual exploitation of its people. These illegal immigrants migrate to the United States seeking refuge from their home country, and wishing to pursue a better life for themselves and their children.

In November of 2014, President Obama announced the initiative to grant legal status to children and parents who live in the United States illegally – and a sigh of hope was cried by immigrants everywhere.

Obama’s Executive Action on Immigrations is a proposal built on the exact fundamentals that our ancestors came to America for…a better life. Democrats have embraced and supported Obama’s efforts, but Republicans oppose it. The executive action has initiated political debates and protests on what should be done.

Rafael Cruz once said, “Only in America can someone start with nothing and achieve the American Dream. That’s the greatness of this country.”

What does America stand for if even the America Dream isn’t real?
