Will the President’s Request Delay Deportation Review?

There is a major divide in the House of Representatives right now that is not showing any signs of dissipating. President Obama is stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to immigration. He is being pressured by the House Republicans to crack down on immigration laws, and on the other hand he is being pressured by immigration activists to loosen up the laws. No matter what he does, there will be an uproar from the opposing party.

In recent times, President Obama has ordered the secretary of Homeland Security to delay a deportation enforcement review until after the summer for he believes it will anger the House Republicans, and they will ruin any chance of anything productive within the near future. Many immigration activists are demanding that Obama take more action to protect some of the 11 million immigrants in the country, but he is worried that the House Republicans will view it as abuse of executive power, and anger them even more than they are already angered.

Being the president is not easy at a time like this. With strong opposition from both sides, there is only so much that President Obama can do. If he chooses to do more for the immigrant activist side, he could create resistance from Republicans that could ruin any hope of any immigration policies changing in the future. And on the other hand, if he chooses to do more for the Republicans, he could lose massive amounts of support from the Hispanic population in the country.
