Will Immigration Bail Bonds Be Overhauled by the Federal Government?

A federal judge has said what many have thought for years: immigration detention may simply be a product of poverty and not of legality. Los Angeles Federal Judge Jesus Bernal of the U.S. District Court, issued an injunction ordering U.S. officials to reform unfair policy regarding immigration bail bonds.  

Simply put, if an immigrant cannot afford an immigration bail bond, they should not be punished by prolonged detention.  

Of course, constitutional rights do not apply to illegal immigrants, but Judge Bernal argues that no person should be detained for lengthy periods of time simply because they cannot afford an immigration bail bond.  

This case all stems from a lawsuit filed in April by the ACLU, which argued that detaining an illegal immigrant for years at a time is inhumane. US Immigration Bonds has issued same-day release bail bonds for this very reason, and we try our best to assist detainees with prices.  

The overarching effects are felt by all. Keeping immigrants locked up in immigration detention centers for years is added costs to the average tax payer as well.  

The hope is that the process will allow for easier and cheaper access to immigrant bail bonds, which will boost the economy. The other, more symbolic idea is that any person in the United States should be given the access to the legal system that has made this country so great.
