Immigration lawyers in New York City and transplants are asking for a list of judges who are hostile towards illegals; not only that, but they want these judges banned from participating in immigration trials. They have petitioned the Department of Justice for the names of judges who have been historically hostile towards undocumented immigrants. This is the first time US Immigration Bonds has seen immigration judges on the chopping block.
The American Immigration Lawyers Association is responsible for the petition and request, which they filed under the laws of the Freedom of Information Act. Immigration lawyers are asking for the names of judges who have had complaints of unethical nature or notes of discrimination during immigration cases.
The U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals of the District found in favor of the immigration lawyers, stating that the names of serial offenders and immigration judges who have been unethical or discriminatory should be made public. This discrimination could stem from setting immigration bonds unrealistically high or refusing to factor in real ethical issues when sentencing undocumented immigrants.
For the first time ever, it seems that the immigration judges will be judged and measured based in the court of public opinion. With the coming election so close, this immigration news will likely send ripples throughout the community, and possibly end the careers for some long sitting judges.
