Holiday Without Borders: Toys for Children in Detention Centers

According to a recent Staff Report by the Committee on Oversight and Reform, separated children have been in federal custody longer than previously reported – about 680 were detained for 46 to 75 days, over 50 from six months to a year, and more than 25 for more than a year.[1] This means that this year, many children will be spending this holiday season without their parents in immigration centers.

We here at US Immigration Bonds have decided to do something to bring joy to these children. So we’ve created the Holiday Without Borders drive, an immigration charity drive to bring joy by delivering toys for children in detention centers.

Visit our Holidays Without Borders GoFundMe page that details this initiative. Here are the basics:

  • The drive will run from October 30 – December 10
  • Children as young as 3 years old will be receiving toys

You Can Send Post Cards & Messages

We encourage you to send notes of love and holiday cheer! You can send messages to children in detention centers by mailing them to our offices. Make sure to address your envelopes:

114 SW 10th St, Suite C Fort Lauderdale Fl. 33315.

We ask that you please ensure these cards are no bigger than a postcard.

Gift Guidelines

We hope that others will see that Holiday Without Borders is for children who need it most. These kids are not guilty of breaking laws and most are too young to fully understand why they are in this situation. Thankfully, there are people like you who can bring them a little holiday cheer this season!

Gift guidelines for children of immigrants in the detention centers:

  • We are only accepting donations at this time because each detention center has its own rules and they are strict about the gifts we are allowed to send.
  • These gifts will be going to both boys and girls at two different detention centers.
  • We want to make sure that every child receives gifts that are fair and that no one child is donated a toy that might cause problems in the detention center.

The idea came to us from the letters to Santa that children in detention centers had written in years past. We decide that buying toys for children in detention centers is the least we can do. We want to bring a bit of hope, a bit of light, a small amount of holiday cheer to children who are stuck in detention centers in the U.S.A.

Our goal is to reach $20,000. Please donate what you can to brighten up the holidays for these kids and to send them toys that will make their entire holiday a little better.
