Deportation: What’s Really Going On?

You will see great irony if you investigate the current political climate pertaining to the United States immigration laws. Critics of the Obama administration say that we need to be tougher on immigration enforcement; that there should be no immigration reform until we ramp up our border security and other enforcement measures.  However if you look at the statistics you will see that the US government is deporting individuals in record numbers.  The question is: Are we deporting the right people? The Obama administration claims to be targeting criminals, gang bangers and people who are hurting the community but internal government records shows that since President Obama took office, “two-thirds of the nearly two million deportation cases involve people who had committed minor infractions, including traffic violations, or had no criminal record at all.”

The topic of immigration is such a delicate issue that we will never be able to reach a bipartisan agreement.  How can we hope to pass comprehensive immigration reform in a Country so divided on its fundamental beliefs about immigration at its very core? As a Country founded on immigrants that came here for a better life, you would assume we would embrace them with open arms.  But reality is our views have shifted and that America needs to close our borders and take care of the people already here that are in need.  An argument for both cases, but nothing will ever get done unless there is compromise.
